Morgan Freeman selling beloved sailing boat

Veteran actor Morgan Freeman is selling his beloved sailing boat to raise funds for charity.
The Shawshank Redemption star, 80, has been the proud owner of the yacht Afrodesia since 1996, but has sailed more infrequently since suffering nerve damage in a 2008 car crash that left his right hand immobile.
His sailing boat, which is moored in the British Virgin Islands, is being sold through local company Virgin Gorda Boat Sales for $295,000 (£224,000).
A listing on the company’s website reads, “This is an amazing opportunity to own one of the most sought after classic yachts of her time! Afrodesia has been well-known within the yachting community as Mr. Morgan Freeman’s personal sailboat for the past 20 years.”
In their advert promoting the yacht, Virgin Gorda Boat Sales bosses state that the proceeds of the sale will be donated to charity.
The star has been a keen sailor for decades, and previously outlined how he fell in love with the sea in an interview with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s Destination MO magazine.
“I’ve always been interested in the sea,” he said. “I was an avid reader as a child and a young man, and I was fascinated by books about the sea. Then, one day, when I was 30 years old, a man gave me a boat. It was in a reservoir in Vermont and I learned to sail it. Then I was hooked on sailing. That was in 1967 and I’ve been doing it ever since.”
