Ambitious and with a
look to die for, Underworld unfortunately had great potential
to be what The Matrix Reloaded should have been but turns
into so much humorless gothic hokum. Hopefully the sequel, underway
now, will make the most of what’s great (the look) and leave behind
what’s not (the rest).
Jonathan Lynn’s The
Fighting Temptations is a predictable and silly movie, but a
choir composed of diverse musical talents and rocking performances
by a who’s who roster of gospel musicians make this film worthwhile.
Old age can’t tame Michael
Caine and Robert Duvall, as this predictable but endearing tale of
renewed hopes and youthful aspirations fittingly proves. And young
cub Haley Joel Osment takes these legendary lions of the cinema by
the mane to confirm he’s one of the most intrepid actors of his youthful
generation.
Lost In Translation
is another superb effort from director Sofia Coppola and should earn
its place on a few lists this upcoming awards season, especially for
its star Bill Murray.
