MUSIC NOTES: Braxton Engaged

Toni Braxton’s going to the chapel.

The Associated Press is reporting that the singer announced her engagement to producer and keyboard player Keri Lewis. They will wed sometime next year, and it will be her first marriage.

Rumors of an engagement between the singer and football player Curtis Martin circulated back in 1998. However, Braxton denied them. The two reportedly dated for more than a year before breaking up.

Braxton’s recent hits include “He Wasn’t Man Enough for Me” and “Spanish Guitar” from the album “The Heat.”

LIFE’S NOT ALWAYS A BEACH: The Beach Boys and their former record company are feeling some bad vibrations. The two are suing each other over the rights to “Surfin’ Safari” and other early songs recorded by the band, AP reports.

In a suit filed Wednesday, Deck Records says that the Boys broke a 1962 agreement involving “Surfin’ Safari” and five other tunes. The Beach Boys say that they own the tunes and that the record company doesn’t have rights to sell their songs over the Internet.

They’re asking for royalties on past sales, which are estimated at $80 million.

BEATLEMANIA: After five full weeks since it was released, the Beatles’ “1” is topping the charts … again. Remember, this is an album of 27 No. 1 songs from a band that broke up 30 years ago.

An astounding 824,000 copies of the record have sold this week, according to AP. So far, 3.36 million units have been sold in the United States alone and sales were up 18.6 percent this week compared with the previous week.
