Tank Turner has a special gift–seducing and offending women. That’s what makes him the best rebound specialist around. Using his powers for good not evil, he reunites couples by dating the girls and sending them running back to their ex boyfriends.
Comedian Dane Cook stars as Tank in the new movie My Best Friend’s Girl alongside Jason Biggs and Kate Hudson. The plot thickens when Tank’s best friend Dustin (Biggs) hires him to date his lady love Alexis (Hudson) only to find out later the two really hit it off.
Bringing the same chemistry and comedy you see on the big screen, the trio of actors joined us in Los Angeles to chat about their new movie in theaters Sept. 19.
Hollywood.com: Dane, do you anticipate any copycat Tanks starting up after the movie comes out?
Dane Cook: I’m actually teaching a class at The Learning Annex on how to be more like Tank Turner. I think it’s great that you can play a character that has a bit of a villainess tone to him…[and] he uses his dirty deeds…for good at the end.
HW: Do you think Tank’s methods would work in real life?
Dane Cook: Oh certainly. There are definitely guys that take the aggressive approach, no filter, use lewd and lascivious behavior and get the girl in the end, because nobody wants to feel rejected. They tend to say, “What I’m doing wrong and how can I….”
Kate Hudson: You guys have no idea of what you’re talking about.
Dane Cook: That is also true…You can just ask her, we’re fucking idiots [laughs].

HW: Kate, have you ever had a really bad date?
Kate Hudson: I have had a couple pretty bad dates. One date I just left before we even got any food or ordered food because the guy was so deeply boring. I was like, “I’m just going to save us from all of this and leave.”
Jason Biggs: I want to meet that guy. I want to know what that guy’s up to. Don’t you? Do you think he’s still alive [laughs]?
Kate Hudson: I think he was in banking. I’m not kidding.
HW: You character had never been to prom before, what about you?
Kate Hudson: I went to prom. When I was in high school, we’d all go together so nobody really had real dates so a bunch of us would go in a group and that was fun. I liked our prom big time. A big orgy. Oh yeah.
Dane Cook: I just stayed home and masturbated.

HW: Dane, you and Kate had such great onscreen chemistry. Had you met before?
Dane Cook: In a past life. I did a past life regression. I was a pharaoh and she was one of my servants…or the other way around. It’s a blurry image.
HW: Were you able to improvise together?
Dane Cook: This is one of the funniest people that I’ve met. Kate is…to say she has the funny bone. She has the terminator exoskeleton version of the funny bone.

HW: Jason, your character Dustin has his eyebrows shaved off in the movie. Did you actually shave yours for the role?
Jason Biggs: I was down to do it for a long time. I’ll do anything for a laugh and…So, I was down to do it. Then a few weeks leading up to it I did a little research online and there are blogs dedicated to people who have either accidentally or intentionally shaved an eyebrow or some other part of their body and there were horror stories. It didn’t grow back at all. It grew back all screwed up. It grew back somewhere else. It was all fucked up so I said, “Hell No!”
HW: Kate, with so many projects on your plate, what keeps you grounded?
Kate Hudson: Obviously the easy answer is my son and my family. I mean that’s always good question especially these last few years in my life was spent with a lot of traveling and a lot of different things happen in my life and I think just keeping a real good perspective of what all of this is and why we do what we do and why we love what we do and sort of taking you know and how lucky we are to be able to do it. For me, my son especially I get these great periods of time where I can dedicate all my time to my son makes the days that I’m working 18 hour days and I’m feeling guilty not being able to be there when all those times I want to be mother. It makes those times feel better and I can sort of get a nice balance.

HW: This movie is about a love triangle. Have you ever liked the same guy as one of your friends and what is your policy?
Kate Hudson: Have I ever liked the same guy as one of my friends? No…I’d just be honest. I’d just go tell the person, “Hey, I think I kind of like him. What do you think?”
Dane Cook: Yeah. Love triangles are so weird. I was in a love octagon once. That Samoan guy was just bananas.
Kate Hudson: Yeah. Just be up front about it. The only thing is that if you find yourself in that situation…what are you going to do if the person goes, “I’m really uncomfortable with that.” You’re like, “That’s kind of too bad. I’m not telling you because I’m asking your opinion. I’m just trying to be honest.”

HW: Jason, how romantic are you?
Jason Biggs: Watch this; her panties are going to come right off (referring to Kate). Sorry, I’m kidding. She’s not wearing any!….Dustin is a hopeless romantic, emphasis on the hopeless. I like to think that I’m romantic, but not quite as hopeless. I’m so insecure that if I get a slight hint that it might not be working out, I just abort. I just pull the rip cord and I’m outtie because I don’t want to get hurt.
Kate Hudson: You should see a therapist.
Dane Cook: Or several.
Jason Biggs: I am seeing several. No, but I’m working on it.
Kate Hudson: Hence the ring on his finger.
Jason Biggs: Hence the marriage. She is just there to give me confidence. She actually said on one of our early dates, “I like you and I can stand you” and I said, “Will you marry me?” I look for tolerance more than anything else.

HW: Have you ever been pathetic over women?
Dane Cook: Oh yeah because I’m a sappy romantic…I don’t kiss until the 40th date. I really like to take it slow. I’ll present you with a piñata with my hopes and dreams written on paper. I can’t speak for Jason but yeah I have five sisters too so everything about my upbringing was about how to treat a woman and things that girls like. The simple things to the way to their heart, then ultimately to their vagina.
Jason Biggs: Well, I too grew up with mostly women so…I grew up with a vagina and Dane knows his way to it if you know what I mean. You can bypass my heart and go right to my vagina [laughs].
