Nervous Breakdown musical causes a stink

Previews for the production, a stage version of Pedro Almodovar’s 1988 movie, have begun at the Belasco Theatre in New York City, with veteran actress Patti LuPone leading the bill.

But audiences have been less than impressed with one particular scene, in which a mattress is set on fire, with a source telling the New York Daily News that the prop creates “a noxious smell”.

But a representative for the show has dismissed claims the fumes are harmful, and insists the odour is “not that bad”.

The show is set to open its doors officially in the Big Apple later this month (Oct10).
