Newman’s Own Close Call

Paul Newman has been cheating death on the race track for decades. This week, he did it again, this time in an airplane. An electrical problem on Newman’s private jet forced the pilot to make an unscheduled landing about 45 miles south of Albany on Monday, the Associated Press reports today. Newman was in Upstate New York visiting a camp for seriously ill children that he co-founded, and which his food company supports through charitable donations.

The perpetually cool actor, whose last flick was “Where the Money Is,” has said he plans to make one more movie before retiring. He’s 75.
