Model Niki Taylor, who suffered severe abdominal injuries in a car crash in April, was released Tuesday from the hospital, Reuters reports. The 26-year-old model was admitted to an undisclosed physical rehabilitation facility in Atlanta, where she is expected to stay for the next several weeks. She was moved last week from intensive care to a private room.
Taylor was admitted to the hospital when the Nissan Maxima she was riding crashed into a utility pole. The driver, James Renegar, told police he lost control of the vehicle when he was trying to answer his cell phone. Renegar and passenger John Lack, 30, were treated and released from the hospital. The two men said they were friends of Taylor. The driver was later charged with striking a fixed object and having no proof of insurance.
Taylor was planning on returning to her South Florida home the weekend of the accident to start acting lessons. The mother of twin 6-year-old sons, Taylor has been modeling since she was 14 years old. By 15, was the youngest model to ever sign a major cosmetics contract with L’Oréal.
In 1995, Taylor faced tragedy when she found her younger sister, Krissy, dead from an asthma attack in their home near Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
