Once Upon a Time in Hollywood serves up Quentin Tarantino’s biggest weekend at the U.S. box office

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has landed Quentin Tarantino his biggest opening to date at the U.S. box office.

The film snagged $40.3 million from Friday to Sunday (July 26-28, 2019) to debut in second place behind Disney remake The Lion King, which roared at the top for a second week with over $76 million.

Tarantino’s ninth movie as a director, set in 1969, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

Early weekend estimates suggest Spider-Man: Far From Home is a distant third with almost $12 million in its fourth week on release, while Toy Story 4 and Crawl round out the top five.
