Oops! … ‘N Sync Does It Again

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: ‘N Sync. No. 1. Again. Yes, the boyband’s “No Strings Attached” was the best-selling disc for the eighth consecutive week, with 188,000 more albums, according to sales data released Wednesday.

Rounding out the Top Five: the “Mission: Impossible 2” soundtrack (No. 2); Santana’s “Supernatural” (No. 3); Sisqo’s “Unleash The Dragon” (No. 4); and Joe’s “My Name Is Joe” (No. 5).

Whither Britney Spears? Not exactly. These stats represent sales for the week ended Sunday. The teen popster’s new album “Oops! … I Did It Again” was released Tuesday and won’t qualify for chart scrutiny ’til next week.

Overall, the waters aren’t so great right now for teen popsters trying to duplicate freshman successes. The “MMMBop” boys of Hanson bowed at so-so No. 19 with their “This Time Around”; Britney clone Mandy Moore opened at No. 21 with her “I Wanna Be With You.”

In singles action, Santana’s “Maria Maria” stayed atop Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for the millionth week.
