Oprah Winfrey and Meryl Streep lead Webby Awards nominations

Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep and Selena Gomez are among the famous figures nominated at the 2018 Webby Awards.

Oprah received a nod in the Best Host category, while her SuperSoul Conversations interview programme is up for a Best Talk Show prize given out by bosses at the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

A 60 Minutes interview with the legendary TV host is also nominated for a Film & Video award, a competitive category in which she will compete against Meryl’s video interview with U.S. Vogue editor Anna Wintour for the Variety website, and a 73 Questions quiz with Selena, created by Vogue.

Other stars nominated for various prizes include late night host James Corden, American football star turned activist Colin Kaepernick, RuPaul, Shonda Rhimes, and Silicon Valley’s Kumail Nanjiani.

The judging panel who will decide the winners includes U.S. chat show host Jimmy Kimmel, and social entrepreneur Van Jones.

The victors at the 22nd annual Webby Awards will be announced online on 24 April (18), and they will be celebrated at a star-studded event hosted by comedian Amber Ruffin at New York restaurant Cipriani Wall Street on 14 May.

Webby prizes are presented to individuals and firms for excellence on the internet. Among the media companies with nominations, Vice Media leads the way with 29 nods.
