ParaNorman tops U.K. box office

The 3D comedy horror, which features the voices of stars including John Goodman and Leslie Mann, climbed a place to take the top spot with weekend (21-23Sep12) takings of $1.9 million (£1.2 million).

Brad Pitt’s new movie Killing Them Softly had to settle for second position after earning $1.5 million (£955,506), while House at the End of the Street, starring Jennifer Lawrence, was another new entry – debuting at three with $1.2 million (£796,041).

The Sweeney, a big screen version of the popular 1970s U.K. TV drama, dropped to four after taking $1.1 million (£727,742) and Meryl Streep’s romantic comedy Hope Springs rounded out the top five with earnings of $1 million (£625,201).
