“Pearl Harbor” to bypass Ehime Maru city

Disney’s Japanese film distributor, Buena Vista International Japan, has decided not to show Pearl Harbor in the city that was the home of the high school students who died in the Ehime Maru collision, CNN reported Wednesday. Citing an article that appeared in the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun on Monday, CNN said that Disney sent a “marketer” to Uwajima to survey local residents about what they thought about showing the movie in their town. Several replied that it would not be appropriate because the victims’ families were still in mourning. Uwajima mayor Hiroshi Ishibashi told the Japanese newspaper that when he “heard the report about the lavish U.S. premiere that was held on a nuclear carrier ship, I felt angry. … I felt [the U.S. Navy was] helping the movie more and disregarding our kids’ lives.”
