With little stiff competition, Pearl Harbor continues to dominate the overseas box office, setting numerous records in many European countries, according to Daily Variety. In its second week in the U.K., it earned $9.2 million, just 21 percent below what it earned during its opening week. In Korea, it slipped just 15 percent as it took in $5.8 million. By contrast, the World War II drama dropped 50 percent in its second week in the North American market and dropped another 50 percent in its third week here. Dan Marks of box-office trackers ACNielsen EDI predicted in an interview with the Los Angeles Daily News that the film “will continue to sink at the U.S. box office, albeit at a slower rate than before.” In another interview with the newspaper, Exhibitor Relations chief Paul Dergarabedian remarked: “It was expected to be this film that would just dominate the box office. … It would be almost impossible to generate the kinds of numbers a lot of people were throwing out.”
