“Peter Pan” Author Picked

A British author has been commissioned to write a sequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic
novel Peter Pan.

Geraldine McCaughrean was announced Mar. 13 as the chosen
candidate after publishers invited writers to submit proposals for a Peter Pan
follow-up.

Trustees at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital For Children–which owns
the copyright to the original Barrie story and decided last year to
finance a sequel–picked McCaughrean after reading her sample chapter and
synopsis.

The author–who won critical acclaim for her re-telling of Noah’s Ark, Not
The End of the World
–says, “It’s an astonishing, daunting privilege to be let
loose in Neverland, armed with nothing but a pen, and knowing that I’m walking
in Barrie’s revered footsteps.”

J.M. Barrie’s life was brought to the big screen in last year’s Finding Neverland starring Johnny Depp.
