Polish moviemaker Andrzej Wajda has died

Celebrated Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda has died, aged 90.
The Oscar winner lost his battle with lung cancer, according to reports.
His films included Kanal and Katyn, about the Katyn massacre of Polish army officers by the Soviet Union in 1940 which claimed the life of his father. He was awarded an honorary Oscar for his contribution to world cinema in 2000.
His last film, Powidoki (Afterimage), chronicles the life of painter Wladyslaw Strzeminski and is Poland’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2017 Oscars.
Wajda’s Man of Iron won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1981.
