Presenting Oscar

Julia Roberts, Russell Crowe, Benicio Del Toro, Jennifer Lopez, Marcia Gay Harden, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are just a few of the actors who have been tapped to present at the 74th Academy Awards show on March 24. Whoopi Goldberg will host the show.

This marks Lopez’s fifth year as a presenter, while it’s a first for Dunst, Harden, Del Toro and Wilson. Crowe and Roberts have presented three times, Stiller twice.

Charlize Theron made her second appearance as a presenter on March 2, when she hosted the Academy’s non-televised Scientific and Technical Awards (portions of which will air during the March 24 broadcast).

Both Sting and Faith Hill will perform for the second time at the Oscars. Hill will sing “There You’ll Be” from Pearl Harbor,” written by Diane Warren and nominated in the Best Original Song category; Sting will sing his Best Original Song contender “Until . . .” from Kate & Leopold.”

No doubt one of the most intriguing performances will come from the avante garde Cirque du Soleil, which will stage a salute to music with 30 artists from five Cirque du Soleil productions. “I’m not going to say exactly what they’re planning, but I can tell you that it will include a film element and will be spectacular and original,” said show producer Laura Ziskin.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2001 will be presented on Sunday, March 24, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland(R) and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PST, with a half-hour arrival segment preceding the presentation ceremony.
