Prince William to wed in 2011

The 28-year-old prince proposed to the brunette beauty in October (10) during a holiday in Kenya, and the happy news was announced by royal officials on Tuesday (16Nov10). The couple has been dating for eight years after meeting at Scotland’s St Andrews University.

A statement from officials representing William’s father, Charles, Prince of Wales, reveals the wedding will take place in London in either spring or summer 2011 and the couple will live together in Wales. William’s brother Prince Harry is likely to act as best man at the ceremony.

The statement reads, “The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.

“The wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.

“Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton’s father. Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.”

A statement from Buckingham Palace adds, “Both the Queen and the Duke Of Edinburgh are absolutely delighted with them both.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron says he is “delighted” by the news.

The year of the nuptials has a poignant significance for the prince, as it will mark what would have been his parents’ 30th wedding anniversary. Charles divorced Diana, Princess of Wales in 1996 just a year before she was killed in a car crash in France.
