Rapper DMX is reportedly heading back to jail after failing his court-ordered drug tests.
The troubled star was arrested for tax evasion and slapped with 14 federal counts in July (17), amid allegations he engaged in a “multi-year scheme to conceal millions of dollars of income” from the IRS, helping him avoid paying $1.7 million in tax liabilities.
DMX pleaded not guilty to the charges, which would have landed him a maximum of 44 years behind bars if convicted on all counts. The X Gon’ Give It to Ya hitmaker, real name Earl Simmons, subsequently struck a deal with authorities last year, pleading guilty to one count of tax evasion in exchange for a lesser sentence. He was then set free on bail and was scheduled to be sentenced in March (18).
However, on Tuesday (30Jan18), the rapper reported late to a court hearing in the case and was taken into custody after it was revealed he had tested positive for opiates and cocaine.
“I’m saddened and disappointed,” DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman, tells TMZ. “We’ll have to deal with it accordingly.”
The arrest is the latest in a long line of legal woes for the the father of 15 – he has endured multiple stints in prison in recent years, serving time for reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, theft and drug possession charges, as well as a parole violation and failure to pay child support.
