Friday night’s final game of the NBA championship series posted a 9.1 rating and a 17 share, enough to give NBC a win for the night but disappoint the network nevertheless. The ratings result was not even in the same arena with the 22.3 rating and 38 share that the final game of the 1998 series between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz produced–Michael Jordan’s last appearance. It was even well behind the 10.0/20 scored for the final game of last year’s NBA series and the 11.0/22 for the final game of the 1999 series. Meanwhile, TV audiences virtually disappeared on Saturday, with the top network, CBS, winning the night with an average of just 4.7/10. NBC was second with a 4.2/9, followed by Fox with a 4.0/9 and ABC with a 2.4/5.
