Renee Zellweger: ‘Playing Judy Garland was a great life blessing’

Renee Zellweger feels “blessed” to have been able to play Hollywood icon Judy Garland in the upcoming biopic, Judy.
The 50-year-old actress spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the honour of playing The Wizard of Oz star on screen, gushing: “This one will be a hard thing to describe. It was a great life blessing. It really was.”
The film follows the actress/singer as she heads to London in 1968 in an effort to revive her career, and documents her journey through to the accidental overdose and her drug and alcohol issues, which ultimately led to her untimely death aged 47.
But Zellweger claimed she wanted to show all sides of Garland’s character through her portrayal, adding: “She mattered so much to so many people and she touched the lives of so many people, we want to show her the love that she shared with all of us.
“And, boy, what a special experience that was,” the star gushed.
Judy debuts in cinemas next month (Sep19).
