“Revolutions” To Debut Simultaneously Worldwide

Are you ready for a Warner Bros.-style revolution? The studio has announced it will release The Matrix Revolutions at exactly the same time in major cities around the world next month.

Revolutions will open in 65 countries on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and Matrix fans will be able to view the sci-fi sequel in Los Angeles at 6 a.m., in New York at 9 a.m., in London at 2 p.m., in Moscow at 5 p.m. and in Tokyo at 11 p.m.

No film has ever been released this way, and according to Warner Bros. Distribution President Dan Fellman, the move aims to capitalize on the final part of the trilogy’s popularity and to ward off piracy.

“The zero-hour simultaneous opening of Revolutions once again positions the Matrix films as the cutting edge experience in motion pictures,” Fellman told Variety.

Revolutions will also debut stateside Nov. 5 across IMAX screens. It will be the first time a Hollywood blockbuster has been released in two formats at the same time in 35mm and IMAX’s 15/70 formats. IMAX offers both 2D and IMAX 3D images on curved screens up to eight stories tall, and Revolutions has been digitally re-mastered using IMAX’s DMR(TM) technology.

Directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski, The Matrix Revolutions is the final installment of the successful sci-fi trilogy starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving.
