Rick Ross countersues independent rapper

Rick Ross has countersued an independent rapper who filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the hip-hop heavyweight.
Raul Caiz sued the Hustlin’ star and his label bosses at Def Jam Records and Universal Music Group in November (15) for trademark infringement, unjust enrichment and misappropriation, claiming Ross began using his stage name, Mastermind, without his permission.
Ross’ sixth studio album is titled Mastermind, and, according to the lawsuit, Ross has been referring to himself using the moniker since 2013. However, Caiz claimed he has been going by the name Mastermind for 17 years and has had it trademarked.
Caiz is seeking $2 million (£1.4 million) in damages and an injunction to stop Ross from using the moniker, but the 40-year-old is firing back and has launched his own lawsuit against Caiz.
Ross is also asking a judge to dismiss Caiz’s lawsuit, according to Bossip.com.
