Dennis Rodman, known for his unpredictable behavior and winning championship rings in the NBA, is once again in the headlines. Only this time he’s on the losing end.
Rodman was ordered by an arbitrator to pay $225,000 to a woman who claims he raped her. Now Rodman says he would rather go to trial than pay, reports The Associated Press.
“We’ve demanded a trial. The arbitrator’s award was excessive and does not reflect the evidence,” said Christopher Branch, Rodman’s attorney.
Actress-model Tina New alleges that she met Rodman at a bar in August 1999. She claims that after she refused an invitation by Rodman’s bodyguard to party with the basketball player, she was kidnapped and taken to his house, where she fell asleep after being forced to quaff a drugged beverage. When she woke, she claims, Rodman raped her.
New sued Rodman for $10 million last August. Rodman denies the charges.
Both parties had the right to reject the arbitrator’s ruling and ask for a trial.
