Philip Beresford, who writes the London Sunday Times’ annual Rich
List, is predicting that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is
likely to become the first writer to become a billionaire.
“She is the
biggest brand name in literature since Shakespeare,” Beresford wrote
Sunday. Although her wealth is already estimated to have reached $100
million, that figure, Beresford wrote, is likely to be dwarfed by
receipts for films, video, and toys. (She receives 1 percent of the film
revenue and 5 percent from sale of the toys, Beresford wrote.)
