Sigourney Weaver to fight The Defenders

Sigourney Weaver is set to channel her villainous side to take on The Defenders in Netflix’s latest superhero series.
The Alien icon was unveiled as the latest member of the cast as she joined the stars of The Defenders – Luke Cage’s Mike Colter, Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter, Daredevil’s Charlie Cox, and Finn Jones, who will play the titular character in another upcoming series, Iron Fist – onstage at New York Comic-Con on Saturday (08Oct16).
Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb did not share specific details about Weaver’s evil character, but declared, “Marvel is honoured to have an actress of her calibre and status join what is already our biggest show ever! She is by definition a class act.”
The role will mark Weaver’s first as a small screen regular since she featured in 2012 mini series Political Animals.
The announcement took place at the end of a panel to promote Iron Fist, during which it was revealed Rosario Dawson, who has portrayed Claire Temple in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, will also reprise her Night Nurse character for the new comic book drama, which will debut on Netflix in March (17).
Meanwhile, another Daredevil co-star, Deborah Ann Woll, has officially been added to the cast of series spin-off The Punisher, starring opposite Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher.
Production on The Punisher recently began in New York. It has yet to be given a Netflix premiere date.
