Singer Joan Marie Johnson dies at 72

Singer Joan Marie Johnson has died at the age of 72.
The Dixie Cups star passed away of heart disease on 2 October (16) in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Johnson was a founding member of the group, alongside Barbara Ann Hawkins and Rosa Lee Hawkins. The trio formed in high school and went on to sign a recording contract with Red Bird Records in New York in the 1960s.
They went on to have several hits, including Chapel of Love, People Say, Little Bell, and Iko Iko.
Johnson left the group in the early 1970s after becoming a Jehovah’s Witness and she was replaced by New Orleans singer Beverly Brown.
