Sonic Youth selling off beloved guitars

Sonic Youth are selling off many of their beloved instruments to fans and collectors.
Some of the post-punk band’s favourite guitars are among more than 400 pieces of gear and memorabilia they are flogging via Reverb, an online marketplace allowing bands and fans to cash in on rare records and memorabilia.
The Official Sonic Youth Reverb Shop goes online on Tuesday (30Oct18), with items listed for sale including the Fender Telecaster Deluxe used by band members Lee Ranaldo, Jim O’Rourke, and Mark Ibold from 1987 until 2009.
Another item for sale is Ranaldo’s Travis Bean TB1000A Artist guitar, which was stolen in 1999, but retrieved in 2002 and played until the group disbanded in 2011.
A Fender Precision Bass used by Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, whose 2011 split after 27 years of marriage prompted the group to go on hiatus and then disband, is also up for sale.
In total, more than 200 pieces of the Teen Age Riot rockers’ equipment will go on sale from Tuesday, while records, posters and personal items belonging to the band members will also be up for grabs.
