Sunday’s season finale of The Sopranos on HBO was watched by 9.5 million viewers, beating the figure for last year’s finale, which attracted 9 million viewers, but falling behind the numbers pulled in for the first two episodes this season. Although the pay cable network can be seen in only one third of the homes that receive over-the-air networks, the gangster series managed to pull in more males between the ages of 18 and 49 than three of the major networks during the same time periods. Only the season finale of The X-Files on Fox beat it in that category.
