Spider-Man brings home U.K. box office crown

Spider-Man: Homecoming has spun in at the top of the U.K. box office chart.

The superhero reboot, which features British actor Tom Holland as web-slinging high school student Peter Parker, debuted with takings of $12 million over the weekend (07-09Jul17).

It is the first standalone Spider-Man movie to tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe film franchise.

Last week’s (end02Jul17) number one, animated comedy caper Despicable Me 3, falls to number two with ticket sales of $6.85 million.

Edgar Wright’s heist thriller Baby Driver is at three with $1.68 million, while Transformers: The Last Knight is at four having made $517,000 this weekend.
