Steve Irwin’s widow: ‘Russell Crowe is just a dear friend’

Late conservationist Steve Irwin’s widow Terri has shot down reports she’s quietly dating her late husband’s pal Russell Crowe.
Terri, who continues The Crocodile Hunter’s work in Australia with the couple’s kids Bindi and Robert, has been romantically linked to the Gladiator star in recent months, but she insists Russell is just “a dear friend”.
Asked to comment on the reports during an appearance on Access Hollywood Live on Friday (12May17), she said, “We are friends so he did contact me and asked me if there’s something I should let him know.
“He and Steve became friends many years ago and after Steve passed, you find out who your true friends are, and Russell has been very loyal as a great friend…
“He’s a great guy but he’s absolutely just a dear friend. There’s nothing going on… We love his family and we’ll keep it just as friends.”
Terri went on to reveal she hasn’t dated anyone since her husband died in a freak diving encounter with a stingray in 2006.
“I feel a connection still with Steve,” she explained. “When you take those vows and say, ‘We’ll be together as long as we both shall live…’, I really don’t think I would have married if I hadn’t met Steve.
“He’s very special to me, and continues to be… I’m lonely for Steve but I’m not a lonely person.”
Her daughter Bindi, who is now an international conservationist and TV personality, insists all she wants is for her mum to be happy, adding, “She’s still married to dad, so why would you ever want someone to go out (and date) if they were already so happy… If you’ve found that soulmate, you don’t really want to move on.”
