Studio where David Bowie recorded final album to close

The New York studio where David Bowie secretly recorded his final album is set to close its doors after 28 years.
The Magic Shop founder Steve Rosenthal has announced the Soho venue will shutter for good on 16 March (16).
No official reason has been given for the closure, but according to the New York Times, Rosenthal had tried to purchase the property, with the backing of Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl. However, their offer was rejected by board members at the housing co-operative.
Bowie used The Magic Shop’s facilities to record Blackstar, which was released on his 69th birthday, just two days before the music icon’s death on 10 January (16). His 2013 album, The Next Day, was also recorded there, while Norah Jones and the late Lou Reed are among the artists who have worked at the studio.
