T.I. to star in Will Smith’s Flint water drama

Rapper/actor T.I. is set to headline a drama about the Flint, Michigan water crisis, produced by Will Smith.
The Ant-Man star will team up with Fast & Furious castmember John Ortiz for the film, titled Flint, which centres on an ex-convict who finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery as residents of the city find their health in jeopardy due to the water pollution problem.
The real-life crisis began in 2014 when city officials switched Flint’s water source from Lake Huron and the Detroit River to the Flint River.
The new water supply was later discovered to be contaminated with high levels of lead, which reportedly caused 12 deaths and made thousands of locals ill. Many Flint residents are still forced to rely on bottled water as authorities continue to work towards replacing the corroded water pipes.
The movie, written and directed by Malcolm M. Mays, will be developed by Smith and his business partner James Lassiter for their production company Overbrook Entertainment, reports Deadline.com.
