Teens get their own film fest

Saying its aim is to give young filmmakers “a new launching pad for
future careers,” Toronto-based Hiltz Squared Productions is organizing
the first annual Toronto International Teen Movie Festival, set to open
on Oct, 27 and run through Nov. 4.

At a Toronto news conference,
Jonathan Hiltz, president of Hiltz Squared, said that it hops to show
teenagers producing movies and documentaries on home computers “that the
entertainment industry isn’t some shady industry — it’s a solid,
wonderful industry where you can express yourself and have a great
career.”

Naomi Hiltz, co-creator of the festival, told today’s Toronto Star that the festival has high aspirations.
“We all want to see Miramax sign a three-picture deal with a
10-year-old.”
