Terrence Howard has reportedly reached a settlement in his Empire breach of contract lawsuit with his former managers.
Bosses at Authentic Talent and Literary Management filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court last year (2016), claiming Howard, who hired the services of the agency in 2013, owed them at least $250,000 in commissions. Howard has since moved on from the firm, but Authentic bosses claimed he agreed to pay them post-termination commission fees in a 2014 email.
Executives at the company also claimed they were responsible for preventing Howard’s termination from the hit show.
The 48-year-old reportedly never hired an attorney to represent him and did not respond to the lawsuit. In March (17), he was reportedly hit with an unspecified default judgement.
However, according to Deadline.com, the case has now been settled without prejudice, which means the lawsuit can be refiled in the future. The settlement amount was not disclosed, but Howard signed a seven-year contract for Empire, and Authentic executives maintain they were entitled to 10 per cent of his earnings for the duration of the deal, which will expire in 2020.
