PRETTY PEOPLE PLAYING IN LONDON
Now, this is a pairing I can ooh and ahh over. Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell are set to star in London Boulevard, a crime drama that marks the directing debut of The Departed scribe William Monahan, Variety reports. Farrell will play a South London criminal who, after release from prison, tries to give up the gangster life by becoming a handyman for a reclusive young actress. Somehow, I don’t think it’s going to work out as planned.

Drew Barrymore reeeeally wants to do another Charlie’s Angels. And why shouldn’t she? The two previous Angels movies did fairly well, and she looks like she had fun making them. I mean, look at her, isn’t she just primed for more kick-assing? According to E! Online, Barrymore’s producing partner Nancy Juvonen says: “It’s percolating up. It’s rising to the surface.” Here’s some story suggestions: One of Angels gets married. Or maybe there will be a major cat fight when one of the Angels goes devilishly wrong. More importantly, who’s going to play Bosley, now that Bernie Mac has left us?

JENKINS HEADS TO THE WOODS
I love it when a hard-working character actor — such as Richard Jenkins, whose face you know but name you don’t — finally gets a role to shine with. He was just anointed an Oscar nod for Best Actor for his quiet but powerful performance in The Visitor, and I say kudos to him! Of course, he won’t let it go to his head and is stilling plugging along. He is in negotiations to star with former The West Winger Bradley Whitford in a mystery-shrouded horror project Cabin in the Woods, written by Lost collaborators Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Much like the feature Cloverfield, which Goddard scripted, the Cabin yet-unknown story line provides a new twist on a classic scenario — in this case, the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope. “It’s really just your basic typecasting: When you need two actors to run through the woods in low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford,” Goddard joked.

SCOTLAND OR BUST!
Gerard Butler is finally gaining enough of a following that he can get one of his dream projects off the ground: a biopic of Scottish poet Robert Burns, a cultural icon in his home country but who us Yanks may not know too much about. According to The Times, Butler may get his chance in 2009, with Vadim Jean attached to direct, and most of the budget already in place, thanks to Scottish Screen. The remainder will be raised by signing 250 “subscribers” to the project, which, ironically, is how Burns’ famous Kilamarnock Edition was published. In 1786, investors backed the famous book of Burns’ poetry, convincing the poet to abandon his plan to relocate to Jamaica with his mistress and muse Mary Campbell. Hmmm … well, Butler as a dashing poet rising from his rural upbringing to literary greatness could be something to get behind, I suppose.

RHAMES IS MASTER HAROLD
Ving Rhames gets a juicy role. He’ll play the lead role in the big-screen adaptation of Athol Fugard’s 1982 play Master Harold … and the Boys, a role Danny Glover originated on Broadway, according to the Reporter. Rhames takes on the role of Sam, a dignified, noble waiter who is a father figure to young Hally (Freddie Highmore). South African actor Patrick Mofokeng rounds out the cast as Willie, a younger, more lighthearted waiter who is preparing for a ballroom dancing competition.
