THE TITANS TOM AND DENZEL UNITE
Talk about your Hollywood heavyweights. Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington are joining forces for the action-packed adaptation of The Matarese Circle, a spy-vs-spy thriller based on the novel by Robert Bourne Identity Ludlum, E! reports. The story follows a Russian spy (Cruise) and an American intelligence agent (Washington), two mortal enemies who have spent decades attempting to off each other. The distrustful duo are eventually forced to team up after they find themselves deep into the crosshairs of a political conspiracy devised by a shadowy group known as the Matarese.
Wonder if Cruise will attempt a Russian accent?

MORE WARGAMES?
Is nothing sacred anymore? Apparently, there were some rumors floating around awhile ago that WarGames sequel was in the works, starring 90210‘s Matt Lanter, but it has since been dropped. Now, according to Production Weekly’s Twitter feed, Leonardo DiCaprio is interested in a redo of the ‘80s techno-thriller (as a producer, one only hopes). I just don’t think doing a WarGames in this day and age will make nearly the impact it did in 1983.

THAT OTHER IDOL CHICK WHO ACTS
We all know Jennifer Hudson has the chops, but do we think American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee could have an acting career? She already played a pregnant geeky sorority girl in House Bunny. Now she’s starring in the rom-com Wedlocked with Brothers & Sisters‘ Dave Annable. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Annable will play a pet photographer who gets mixed up with a mobster and his daughter, who is angling for American citizenship. Things go terribly awry on their forced honeymoon. That isn’t the only thing going terribly awry, I’m afraid.

JANSSEN JUMPS ON THE CHAMELEON
Famke Janssen is joining Ellen Barkin and newcomer French-Canadian actor Marc-Andre Grondin in The Chameleon, a psychological thriller inspired by the real-life profile of Frederic Bourdin in the New Yorker, who assumed at least 39 identities, three of them missing teens. The film revolves around the reunion of the young man and his family after he’s identified in an unsolved missing-persons case. But suspicions arise over whether he really is their son. Barkin will play the mom, and Janssen is an FBI agent. Catch Me If You Can!

RUM HITS THE SPOT
Aaron Eckhart and Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins will be hitting the sauce with Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary, the screen adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel. Actress Amber Heard (Pineapple Express) also is on board. It’s the tale of Paul Kemp (Depp), a washed-up, hard-drinking journalist in 1950s Puerto Rico. Eckhart would play Sanderson, a wealthy landowner who believes everything has a price and introduces Kemp to a different standard of living and is also the third element of the central love triangle. This is very familiar territory for Depp, who starred in Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas many moons ago.

BROLIN, HOPKINS JOIN WOODY ALLEN
Woody Allen is broadening his repertoire more and more. He has now enlisted Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins in his next untitled film. A return to Europe for Allen, the new film shoots in London this summer — and of course we know nothing about its plot. Let’s just hope Allen brings a little bit of his Vicky Cristina Barcelona sensibilities back to his London movies.
