The Fate of the Furious races past $1 billion internationally

The Fate Of The Furious has become only the sixth film in Hollywood history to speed past the $1 billion mark at the international box office.
The eighth installment of the street racing franchise, starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and Charlize Theron, officially crossed the huge milestone outside of the North American market on Sunday (28May17).
The movie, directed by F. Gary Gray, joins 2015’s Furious 7 in the billion dollar club, which also features Avatar, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Titanic, and Jurassic World, while The Fate of the Furious is currently the 11th highest-grossing film in global box office history, thanks to a worldwide haul of just over $1.2 billion, reports Variety.com.
Meanwhile, it was also a good weekend (26-28May17) for Beauty and the Beast in the North American box office, earning another $1.6 million (£1.25 million) to surpass $500 million (£390 million) domestically. That makes the Disney live-action film, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, the biggest hit of the year (17) so far.
Beauty and the Beast’s global total currently stands at $1.23 billion, placing it 10th on the all-time list of highest-grossing films, just behind another big Disney smash, Frozen, which is at nine with $1.287 billion.
