“I auditioned for Elia Kazan for the movie Splendor in the Grass with Warren Beatty and he hadn’t been cast in it yet… It was a theatre on Broadway and Kazan called me down… and he said, ‘Are you ambitious?’ and I said, ‘No!’ The minute the word came out of my mouth I knew I had lost the part.
