Thomas Rhett brings adopted daughter home from Uganda

Country star Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren are celebrating after becoming adoptive parents.
The couple announced the arrival of Willa Gray Akins via social media on Friday (12May17), and posted a photo of their daughter, who was adopted from Africa.
The pair revealed its plans to adopt just before Lauren announced she was pregnant and expecting a baby in August (17).
According to People magazine, the family arrived home from Uganda on Thursday (11May17).
“On the way to the airport, it was like Christmas Day,” Rhett says.
“It felt like a dream,” his wife added. “I’ve dreamed of us all being on the same continent for so long. It finally feels like everyone is where they’re supposed to be.”
Lauren first met her 18-month-old daughter in Uganda during a visit sponsored by the 147 Million Orphans charity, and she sent home a photo of herself holding little Willa.
“Lauren had this amazing glow about her and it just felt like she was already our daughter in a weird way,” Thomas adds. “I just blurted out, ‘We should bring her home’.”
He and his wife, who have struggled to conceive for years, made more than a dozen trips to Africa over the past year to finalise the adoption – and during that time Lauren learned her conception woes were over.
Rhett is currently on a break from touring but he’ll return to the road in Mississippi later this month (May17).
