Tobey Maguire’s estranged wife Jennifer Meyer still considers the actor her “best friend”, insisting he has been the “greatest ex-husband” since their 2016 separation.
The Spider-Man star and celebrity jewelry designer Jennifer were married for nine years, and despite ending their romance, they have remained close for the sake of their two children, daughter Ruby, 11, and son Otis, eight.
Their evolved relationship has been working so well, Jennifer insists they have nothing but love for one another.
“He’s my best friend,” she tells Us Weekly. “He’s the greatest ex-husband a girl could ever have.”
The former couple has made co-parenting its number one priority and as a result, Ruby and Otis are really flourishing.
“The day begins with the kids and ends with the kids,” Jennifer continues. “So you manage to get your time in and work hard in the middle, you know? They’re really amazing kids, so we figure it out together.
“It just manages to work out really well.”
Tobey and Jennifer vowed to always put their young family first when they announced their break-up in October, 2016.
“After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple,” they declared in a joint statement. “As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship.”
Jennifer may have drawn inspiration for her co-parenting relationship with Tobey from her close pal Gwyneth Paltrow, who shares two children with her ex-husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The Iron Man star is now engaged to Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk, but during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night (25Jan18), Gwyneth insisted she and Chris are so close, she thinks of him as a “brother”. The ex-couple split in 2014, shortly after marking a decade of marriage.
