Tom Hanks joins wounded warriors initiative

Actor Tom Hanks is throwing his support behind an initiative to support military caregivers.
The Captain Phillips star has played a soldier in several films, including Saving Private Ryan and Forrest Gump, and the actor admits the emotional toll that comes with the roles has stuck with him and compelled him to join the Hidden Heroes campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the “people who love our wounded warriors who come back (from war).”
“I covered some of this turf in my fake life as an actor who puts on other people’s clothes and the emotional impact of a number of those jobs, it’s never left,” he told U.S. breakfast show Today on Tuesday (27Sep16). “It comes down to a chance in order to serve and I think help out in a very pragmatic and understandable way.
“There’s nothing unique in saying, ‘Well let’s come up with an organisation that will put all these people together and rally the resources’. It’s a pretty simple concept.”
