TV veteran Kirk in talks to direct Thor

Thespian Branagh was the unlikely choice to step behind the camera for this year’s (11) 3D spectacular Thor, but he won acclaim for his action blockbuster.

However, the Brit has decided against staying on to make the planned 2013 follow-up, and now Kirk, who recently directed episodes of popular fantasy series Game of Thrones, has entered negotiations with film studio bosses to make his major directorial debut after years on popular TV shows like Boardwalk Empire, The Tudors and Dexter, reports trade paper Daily Variety.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role as the hammer-wielding superhero in the sequel.
