U.S. film distributors are finding it increasingly difficult to book top films into Indian movie theaters, as Bollywood continues to churn out several times the number of films that all of Hollywood’s studios together produce each year. “The fact is that Hindi films get preference over dubbed Hollywood films,” Sarabjit Singh, head of Paramount’s Indian releasing office, told Wednesday’s Times of India. “The only way we can cope with this situation is by spacing out our releases. On the other hand, we also can’t delay the release of films for too long because pirated VCDs, and even DVDs, of the latest Hollywood hits are easily available these days.”
