U2 to play free concert in London’s Trafalgar Square

U2 will be playing a huge free concert in London’s Trafalgar Square ahead of the 2017 Mtv Europe Music Awards (EMAs).
The 22-time Grammy Award winners are to receive the Global Icon award at the ceremony in the British capital on Sunday (12Nov17).
The day before the band will play a massive MTV Presents concert in the tourist spot, which is home to famous landmark Nelson’s Column.
Welcoming U2 to the city, London’s mayor Sadiq Khan said: “London is one of the live music capitals of the world, with an unrivalled music heritage. It is fantastic to host the EMAs in our city for the first time in 21 years. I’m delighted that Trafalgar Square will host this special MTV Presents performance – an iconic venue for an iconic band.”
Part of their gig, which 7,000 fans will get to attend, will be broadcast during Sunday’s ceremony at The SSE Arena, Wembley. Free tickets are being offered to via a special ballot, which opens at midnight on Monday (06Nov17).
Previous stars honoured with the Global Icon Award include Ozzy Osbourne, Eminem, Whitney Houston, Queen and Bon Jovi.
Rita Ora will host the 2017 MTV EMA Awards, with Liam Payne, Travis Scott, Stormzy, Kesha and Camila Cabello all confirmed to perform.
