Vanessa Lachey Opens Up About Son’s Premature Birth

Vanessa Lachey opened up about the difficult birth of her third child during the latest episode of Dancing With The Stars.

The TV personality and her singer husband Nick Lachey welcomed a little boy named Phoenix in December (16), but the tot’s arrival was unexpected as he was actually due in the spring.

Recalling the stressful time during Monday’s (09Oct17) Most Memorable Year episode of the dance competition show, Vanessa, who is competing with professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, couldn’t hold back her emotions.

“I was in the hospital on bedrest and then my water broke. I was only 29 weeks,” the 36-year-old explained. “I was on the operating bed and I looked up and I didn’t know a single face and I remembered thinking, ‘I hope the baby’s okay and don’t worry about me. Just make him okay.'”

Vanessa and Maksim performed to a song sung by Nick, who is also competing in this series, on Monday’s show and it was a track that helped the couple through some “really though times” and bond as a family.

Nick, 43, struggled to hold back his tears on the topic too, admitting he’ll never forget the moment she called him in a state of panic.

“I think as a man, you want to believe you can protect your kids, protect your wife,” he sobbed. “I never felt so helpless.”

Vanessa and Nick are also parents to son Camden, five, and two-year-old daughter Brooklyn.
