Vaughn’s ‘gay’ line to be removed from movie trailer

Appearing on comedienne Ellen DeGeneres’ U.S. daytime chat show on Thursday (07Oct10), Cooper revealed he was offended by the teaser, in which Vaughn tells a room of people, “Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars… are gay.”

The journalist argued such pejorative use of the language should be eliminated as it fuels teen bullying, which is currently hitting headlines after a spate of sex-related gay teen suicides across America.

He told DeGeneres, “I was shocked that not only that they put it in the movie, but that they thought that it was OK to put that in a preview for the movie to get people to go and see it.

“We’ve got to do something to make those words unacceptable because those words are hurting kids.”

Executives at Universal Pictures have now bowed to the growing outrage, and they have promised to replace the trailer with a new one.

A spokesperson for Universal Pictures tells TMZ.com, “The teaser trailer for The Dilemma was not intended to cause anyone discomfort. In light of growing claims that the introduction to the trailer is insensitive, it is being replaced.”
