Walliams not undergoing tests for Weil’s disease

The funnyman swam 140 miles (225 kilometres) along England’s River Thames to raise $1.6 million (£1 million) for the U.K.’s Sport Relief organisation, but suffered diarrhoea and sickness during the challenge.

Britain’s The Sun reported this week (begs26Sep11) that Walliams was being tested for potentially fatal Weil’s disease, a waterborne condition, as a precaution – but a spokesperson for Comic Relief, which created Sport Relief, has played down the claim.

The rep says, “Comic Relief understands that David has contracted a bug that has caused a stomach upset.

“He is being treated for this and has been advised by medical professionals that it is not serious and that he will soon be back to full health. David has not been tested for Weil’s disease.”
