Walliams worries swim injury will take years to heal

The Little Britain star swam 140 miles (225 kilometres) along England’s River Thames to raise $1.6 million (£1 million) for charity, but he fell ill with a stomach bug during the marathon challenge.

Walliams also suffered a problem with his back, and fears the crippling pain will be with him for years to come.

He tells Britain’s The Sun, “I got this thing called giardiasis, which is a waterborne parasite that gave me an upset stomach.

“Then I tore a disc in my back because I was in the water for so long. The pressure on your back is intense and the muscles around it went into spasm. I couldn’t walk. It was horrible.

“I was on Valium, amongst other things, as it’s a muscle relaxant so it could help me get over it. It was amazing. I was in a very weird state though. It was horrible being ill.

“I’ve still got a tear in my back so I’ve got to do Pilates for the next 10 years.”
