A brouhaha has erupted in Australia over a number of apparently incorrect calls on the local version of The Weakest Link, the Melbourne Herald-Sun reported today (Wednesday). Among the most recent errors, the newspaper observed, was the answer “The Union Jack” in answer to a question about the name of the English flag. After checking with the British High Commission in Australia, the Herald-Sun observed that the Union Jack is the flag of Britain (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) and that the cross of St. George is the English flag. The newspaper quoted from one message on the show’s Web site that called for the host to “admit that a mistake was made, and offer some form of recompense or restitution to the team or individual who was penalized.”
