The carpet was red, but it was a great night for white as the stars got glam for the Golden Globes. Sleek snowy gowns, racy red dresses, trailing trains, tons of tulle and an abundance of bling led the trends as the A-list adorned themselves in the most of-the-moment designer duds. From our up-close-and-personal perch on the red carpet runway, Hollywood.com caught all of the heavenly haute couture, and we’re running down our picks for the most fashionable frocks, the tuxedo triumphs and a few embarrassing busts (you know who we mean).

Hollywood.com’s Couture Champion: As far as we’re concerned Keira Knightley easily pirated away the Globes fashion crown, making a splash in her strapless white Valentino column gown with jeweled waist sash, accentuated with an enviable assortment of booty, including with a Tod’s clutch and Cartier’s $450,000 antique diamonds drops. Keira’s partner-in-plunder was super-stylist Rachel Zoe.
Our runner-up for top style star, Maria Bello was bellisimo in her brilliant white Ellie Saab gown with pungling neckline, empire waist and cascading skirt. “I really like Ellie Saab,” she told Hollywood.com. “I wasn’t trying to make a statement. I just wanted something easy.” Maria accentuated with Jimmy Choos and understated diamond studs complemented by a chunky ring–“Just a little somethin-somethin’.” The crowning touch, white gardenias in her upswept hair, left her in full flower
Looking absolutely Dior-geous in John Galliano’s sheer black lace cocktail dress with a tulle flower adornment and thread embroidery over a nude tulle sheath, Charlize Theron was a leg up on the competition, even more dazzling than the Dior 1931 Cartier platinum-and-diamond flower cuff (on loan from Cartier’s museum) on her wrist.
There’s nothing desperate about Teri Hatcher’s seriously sexy bronze metallic Versace V-neck, with art deco-style beading, a near-non-existent back and dramatic hip cutouts (no, there’s nothing underneath). She paired it with a tiny bronze Daniel Swarovski clutch that carried her i.d. (in case the security guards don’t own TVs) and classic H. Stern jewels. “They were the first to loan me stuff when it wasn’t quite so popular to,” Teri told Hollywood.com.
Regally reigning in a periwinkle Carmen Marc Valvo goddess gown, Queen Latifah’s crown jewels included Chopard’s 23-carat, round-shaped drop diamond earrings and a fancy yellow pear-shaped diamond drop pendant on a diamond chain goddess gown. “I feel pretty today, I must say,” said Her Highness. “This is one of the good days where you just know you feel good and you kind of walk with that extra swagger.” Especially in Stuart Wietzman shoes.
She may have cradled a Golden Globe, but Rachel Weisz’s genuine bundle of joy was still four months away from delivery, prompting her to chose a strapless gold gown by Donna Karan that made her one hot mama. “It was allowing me to grow in all different areas,” she told Hollywood.com.
“I picked my dress out the day I got nominated,” red-hot Eva Longoria told Hollywood.com of her Bob Mackie crimson crisscross halter, which was sewn into as it was finished on her way to her limo. “It’s a throwback to Old Hollywood.” Completing the fiery frock were H. Stern jewels (including a good-luck porcelain heart from her beau Tony Parker) and sky-high gold platform shoes to make her a red carpet standout.
Sin Citizen Jessica Alba was into the black in an ebony silk Versace gown with a trailing train that left men’s jaws similarly dragging the ground in her wake. Her sexy smile outshone even her platinum and diamond chandelier earrings and diamond cuff bracelets by Neil Lane.
“Isn’t it beautiful?” asked Felicity Huffman as she showed off her Grecian-inspired Marchesa gown with silver straps and empire waist, a standout among the whiteout trend on the red carpet that along with her Globe win left her feeling all-powerful. “I feel like a goddess.”
[PAGEBREAK]Smartly sheared Natalie Portman created quite a buzz in her oh-so-Audrey Hepburn in her black lace vintage Chanel tea-length dress from the 1950s, highlighted by a diamond brooch pinned at the waist, chunky ring and black strappy heels.
Talk about a scarlet woman! In her scoop neck Valentino dress with soft ruffles on the straps and down the back, red satin Jimmy Choos and crimson lipstick, Scarlett Johansson matched the red carpet and walked all over the competition. Her best baubles: that porcelain cleavage, which got a boost from the structured gown. “It’s all built in – that’s the Valentino way,” said Scarlett.

Lush Evangeline Lily left fashionistas green with envy over her emerald empire-waisted Elie Saab dress, as vibrantly verdant as island foliage. Her dangling $75,000 jadeite and diamond platinum earrings by Lorraine Schwartz matched her gown, and her eyes.
Underworld’s Kate Beckinsale was overwhelming in an Ava Gardner-esque vintage white lace gown with a fishtail hem from Christian Dior. Also leaving jaws dangling were Kate’s 50-carat emerald and 13-carat diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.
Bombshell Sapphire: Who wouldn’t want to get neighborly with Nicolette Sheridan in Armani’s sapphire blue silk chiffon gown with a deep V-neckline, pleated bodice and diaphanous train. The gown features twisted straps that graduate dramatically in width from front to back, and she paired it with an assortment of genuine sapphire bling by Harry Winston.
Brokeback Mountain star Michelle Williams scaled new fashion heights in a strapless purple Givenchy ball gown festooned with violet sequins and crystal beads, with a tiered skirt that layered pleated silk tulle, gauze and crêpe. The matching purple flower on Heath Ledger’s label illustrated the couple’s unity.
In pink Pamela Rowland and Chopard jewelry, ageless Jane Seymour Cashed in as she accompanied her hubby James Keach, producer of Walk the Line. “It reminded me of something June Carter Cash might have worn in the days when she was in love with Johnny Cash,” Jane told Hollywood.com.
More than memoir-able, Ziyi Zhang chose the color of chartreuse-green plissé silk tulle gown with a scalloped sweetheart neckline, fitted bodice, cascading tiered skirt, and floor-sweeping train made especially for her by Giorgio Armani Privé. Accessories included green satin and beaded heels, a Swarovski crystal encrusted clutch, Chopard earrings and a full-time attendant to carry her train.
Holla to our homegirl! Hollywood.com’s vivacious video host Margi Blash more than held her own on the red carpet with the stars in her sexy teal Kay Unger gown, sparkly Bellisima shoes courtesy of Stuart Weitzman and bracelet, drop earrings and layered necklace in stunning hand-cut diamonds from Hearts On Fire. “I was going for a very fun, fresh look because the Globes are a party,” Margi reveled. “And I ended up with diamonds on my body and diamonds on my feet.”
[PAGEBREAK] UNFASHIONABLE
Hollywood.com’s Top Fashion Flop–literally: Droop Bra-no-more, er, Drew Barrymore definitely needs to be kept abreast of more flattering fashions. She should have said ta-ta to her peek-a-boob green Gucci jersey dress.
Alanis Morissette definitely didn’t get by with a little help from her friend–an unnamed chum designed her blah beige-black gown. And she oughta know that blonde would leave her looking bland.

Busted! Only Mariah Carey, in her too-tight deep-plunging satin gown by Karl Lagerfeld gown with heavy crystal embroidering, could make Chanel look so cheap.
“You know you wanted me to show up in a bikini and I didn’t do it!” Pamela Anderson, in an ironically top-heavy Bill Blass gown, told Hollywood.com. “I’ve had this dress for a long time, waiting for an occasion to wear it. I got the invitation, and I thought ‘The dress!” Actually, the bikini would have stacked the odds in her favor.
Ellen Pompeo was anatomically incorrect in a too frou-frou Valentino gown that looked like it was made from all of Grandma’s old doilies. Someone get her to the fashion emergency room. Stat!
MONSTER TUX
Hollywood.com’s ‘Good Night and Good Tux’ Award: “I’ve had the same tux for ten years,” George Clooney confessed to us. “I have! I won best dressed three years in a row with the same tux.” To freshen his fashion, Giorgio Armani gave George a two-button tuxedo with satin lapels, a white classic spread collar evening shirt and black necktie – which he quickly doffed for the after-parties and still looked like the ultimate leading man.
Other men could take a Crash course in style from Terrence Howard, who sported a sleek black Dolce & Gabbana suit, black patent leather shoes, silver tie and a pin-on boutonniere added by a pal as he headed to the awards.
Lost’s Matthew Fox was found in a chic Calvin Klein tuxedo that showcased just how foxy he could be in formalwear, despite a lack of intensive pre-carpet doctoring. “I literally got dressed in about seven minutes,” he told Hollywood.com.
It wasn’t even a close shave: Patrick Dempsey’s Neal Barrett tuxedo left him looking McDreamier than most men in attendance, his sexy stubble adding a scalpel-sharp edge. “I had a lot of help,” admitted Patrick.
After conquering comedy, movies and now music, Jamie Foxx just might want to think about taking on fashion next. The Oscar-winner was again victorious in Valentino, which he freshened up with shades and a deep purple shirt.
